No Flicker Access Keys Criterion

Avoid use of blinking/moving content.

  • Blinking and moving content can cause problems for users with epilepsy or cognitive issues.
  • If a site cannot control this then they may receive maximum points if the site has achieved the highest possible level of compliance in relation to the function of the site itself. Examples of sites which may struggle to avoid flicker include online gaming sites or any site providing multimedia presentations as its main function.
  • The spider will check for the deprecated <blink> and <marquee> tags which only work in certain browsers.
  • A manual check will check for other types of animation which may contain blinking or moving content including Flash and animated gifs.
  • Points -
    • Three points for no moving or blinking content at all.
    • Two points for providing a means to deactivate or pause the moving content.
    • One point for providing a warning about any blinking or moving content.
