Time Outs Access Keys Criterion
If time outs occur you should:
- Give warning of how long the user has to complete a task.
- Provide a means for the user to extend the time they have to complete a task.
- Use no time outs at all.
- Time outs cause problems for people with mobility difficulties, slow reading ability and for those using a screen reader. Users often do not have enough time to complete actions.
- You should avoid having time outs at all, but for some businesses and websites we know this is not an option so we will take this into consideration when scoring this criterion.
- Warnings let users know if they can complete functions in time. A means to extend the time provides extra help completing functions.
- Points -
- Three points if there are no time outs at all.
- Two points if you provide a means to extend the time they have to complete a task.
- One point if you tell the user how long they have.
- Criterion weighting of two.
