Criteria Relating to Multimedia

Users with disabilities generally find multimedia aspects of websites the most troublesome particularly users with low vision and blind and deaf users. As a rule you should use every accessibility feature available when designing with Flash and spend as much time and money as possible in adding captions, sign language and audio description to multimedia presentations on your site. You should also always provide transcripts of multimedia material. Never assume that users will have the necessary plug-ins installed on their systems and insteda provide links to free, device-independent ones.

The Multimedia criteria are:

  1. Alt Page
  2. Audio
  3. Background Audio
  4. Multimedia Content
    1. Multimedia Sight
    2. Multimedia Sound
  5. No Flicker
  6. Plug-ins
