Criteria Relating to HTML Attributes

The criteria in this section all relate to the actual code used to structure the page. You should use HTML or XHTML in a way that makes sense semantically. Pages should have header tags where appropriate and should use markup that defines the actual page content (e.g. definition lists for definitions). You should also use tags where needed to identify interactive elements of a page such as table summaries, labels on form fields, language tags to identify changes in language, etc. When you choose which version of XHTML or HTML with which to comply, you should always check to make certain that your pages validate using the W3C Validator.

The HTML Attributes criteria are:

  1. Abbr
  2. Alt text
  3. Correct Markup
  4. Deprecated Markup
  5. Frame Title
  6. Label Form
  7. Language
  8. Metadata
  9. Table Sum
  10. Use Headers
  11. Valid Document
